When selecting a piano tuner-technician to service your piano, it is highly recommend that you contact a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) from the Piano Technicians Guild. State and Federal Governments do not license the piano service industry, thus anyone can claim to be a qualified piano tuner. I have been a Registered Piano Technician (Craftsman member, RPT) since 1977.

The most important thing the Piano Technicians Guild does is to qualify technicians as Registered Piano Technicians to assure quality piano service by requiring that a technician pass a rigorous set of examinations. The RPT credential shows that the technician is ready to handle normal piano service and repair. The Piano Technicians Guild has put a lot of time and effort into its examinations to establish a good set of standardized tests which will help insure quality piano service.
